the view from my back door

I was taking some snaps of the view from my new house (er, basement suite) to show to my friend, and I think this one turned out rather well, considering I took all of ten seconds to figure out the composition. I'm rather happy with it; happy enough that I took the time to post it on DA after over a year of inactivity!

I found the landscape was a little too dark and the sky a little too light, as usually happens with sunsets, so I brought it into The GIMP, quickmasked the sky, darkened the gamma, inverted the selection, and lightened the gamma for the landscape. Quick filter job, and it works wonders -- the clouds gain a roiling, almost substantial quality.

I think one of the difficult, but important, tasks in photography is to force the picture to look the same way your eye sees it. This is rather difficult, because our eyes are such superbly designed pieces of optics... so sometimes you have to monkey around and crap. Ansel Adams did it all the time, so I'm allowed to as well ^_^
